PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES

His Excellency Peter N.R.O Ogego, Kenyan Ambassador to the United States
Ambassador Peter N.R.O. Ogego arrived in Washington, D.C to take up his post as Kenya’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Mexico and Colombia on August 13, 2006. He takes his appointment after an outstanding performance in Canada for two and a half years.
 
The Ambassador received a rare CANADA DIPLOMATIC CORPS MEDAL AWARD for his distinguished and exceptional contribution to Canada-Kenya relations since his arrival in 2004.
 
Before his assignment as High Commissioner to Canada, he served in reputable positions within the Government and Private Sector institutions such as, Office of the President, and Consultancies for International Development Partners. Most notably, Ambassador Ogego is a well known personality amongst the top Kenyan political elite across the board, having been part and parcel of Kenya’s comprehensive reform process.
 
The Ambassador has previously been deeply involved in the national Awareness campaign against HIV and AIDS. He has worked closely with international organizations such as; the World Bank STD/HIV projects, Action Aid, DFID and UNICEF Kenya, as well as indigenous and other charitable foundation that focus on community sensitization of the pandemic. His passion for child care especially orphans and volunteerism is exemplified through his patronage and directorship of some organizations that promote and offer compassion, care and support to the under privileged in Society.
 
Ambassador Ogego holds a First Class Honors Degree in Political science and International Law from Makerere University in Uganda, and a Masters Degree in Public Organization and Management from the same University. He also holds a Graduate Certificate from the Institute of Social Studies (I.S.S) at The Hague in the Netherlands in Development Law, Human Rights and Social Justice. He is widely read, traveled and experienced in Consultancy and International Conferencing.
The Ambassador has a family, his wife and their three children.

Stephen Hayes, President, Corporate Council on Africa
Stephen Hayes was appointed President of CCA in August 1999. Immediately prior to his appointment, Mr. Hayes was a consultant to Winnington Limited of London, a private European holding company. He was involved in issues affecting the African oil trade as well as the development of agricultural projects in Africa. He was also international projects advisor to the Washington-based firm of Cohen & Woods International, which specializes in U.S./African economic and political relations.

Prior to joining Winnington, Mr. Hayes was president of the American Center for International Leadership and international program director for AFS International/Intercultural Programs. A graduate of Indiana University with a Masters Degree in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University, Mr. Hayes has also served as director of International Projects at the University of Denver. He served several years as a consultant to the UN Development Program and has chaired and directed more than 25 international conferences.

Carol Brooks, Manager of International Trade and Diplomatic Liaison, City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce International Division
 Since January 1993, Carol Brooks worked in the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce and is the Manager of International Trade and Diplomatic Liaison.  Ms. Brooks oversees diplomatic protocol and trade activity.  She helped establish the International Division and the Philadelphia Trade Office for the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce.

In 1997, Ms. Brooks was appointed to serve as the City/State partner for the Export Import Bank of the United States to market their export insurance and financial products and services to the business community.  In addition to her major responsibilities, Ms. Brooks serves as a board member of the Japan American Society of Greater Philadelphia, the Jamaica Trade Council of Greater Philadelphia, the Mayors Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs, the Philadelphia High School Business Academy and the Greater Philadelphia Health Care Congress.  Additionally, she is one of the founders and members of the Protocol & Diplomacy International.

Ms. Brooks has traveled to various countries in Africa, Asia, Central America and Europe.
Ms. Brooks has over 18 years of professional experience in economic development policy making and implementation.  Ms. Brooks received her Masters in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Art in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. John Kilama, President of Global Bioscience Development Institute
Dr. John Kilama, President of Global Bioscience Development Institute, has a broad background in the pharmaceutical, agricultural biotechnology and agrochemical chemistry. Born in Uganda, Dr. Kilama received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona in 1988, a Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky in 1979 and a BA in chemistry from Berea College, Berea, Kentucky in 1976. 

Dr. Kilama worked in DuPont Company as a Senior Medicinal Research Chemist, and was awarded several patents that cover innovative applications of new classes of chemicals for crop protections and published several scientific peer-reviewed articles in the agrochemicals journals. At DuPont, he developed a natural product team in the Chemical Discovery Department. He also helped establish several collaborations between DuPont and other institutions in developing countries. Tony Ceballos, Director of the Philadelphia U.S. Export Assistance Center, Department of Commercial Services (USEAC)
As the Director of the Philadelphia U.S. Export Assistance Center, Tony Ceballos oversees programs in Pennsylvania and Delaware, which provide customized overseas services to evaluate global opportunities, identify and qualify potential business partners. Mr. Ceballos also establishes program partnerships with state and federal agencies and other public and private sector entities to create an efficient export assistance network for U.S. companies. Mr. Ceballos transferred from the West Los Angeles office, where he developed the services sector-a primary industry concentration in the LA area. Prior to Los Angeles, Mr. Ceballos was based in the Ontario, CA where he assisted rural based companies in Riverside and San Bernardino counties access USFCS services. Mr. Ceballos received his Master’s of Arts in International Studies from the Claremont Graduate University. Mr. Ceballos also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in International Relations from the University of California, Riverside.
Mr. Ceballos is also a candidate of Commerce’s 2008 Executive Leadership Development Program. Professional accomplishments include Service Act Awards for top performance in assisting exporters facilitate overseas sales and  Team Collaboration awards from the Deputy Assistant Secretary. 

Dr. Raphael J. Njoroge, Professor of Philosophy and Education, Worcester Consortium of Colleges and Research Associate, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, MA, U.S.A.

Dr. Raphael J. Njoroge received his Ph.D. from the University of Nairobi in Kenya and is a philosopher, educationist and social scientist. He has been Professor of Philosophy and Education at the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University where he was Chairman of the Department of Educational Foundations and Dean of the Faculty of Education as well as Director of the Bureau of Educational Research. He is President of Transglobal Literacy and author and co-author of five books and numerous articles in international Journals. In the United States he was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and is currently a professor in the Worcester Consortium of Colleges and a Research Associate at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.  Having been born and initially educated in Kenya, he has in-depth knowledge of various aspects of African life. He has been external examiner for the Universities of Botswana, Swaziland and Zambia, and has worked as a member of the Committee for the Education Deans of East African Universities.  He is a frequent contributor to the Africa Journal, a publication of the Corporate Council on Africa.

Kimani Gitau, Travel Director & Regional Operator, Shades of Africa Tours and Travel
Kimani Gitau runs a tour operations company based out of Nairobi , Kenya with an office in the USA .  He has over 10 years experience in the tourism and retail industries and is an expert in international trade including tariffs, imports and exports, tourism and hospitality.  He has extensive experience doing business in the USA and Kenya and he regularly organizes tours and Safaris to Africa.  His partnerships extend as far as Japan where he handles all Nexus clients who are interested in traveling to Kenya .   He is also Managing Director of Sawela Lodges, a new resort in Naivasha Kenya, which opens in July 2008.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Penn State University .
